Grupo Niche Grupo Niche, one of the best salsa bands to ever come out of Colombia and of the world, will be here in Toronto April 22 at the Docks to spend an evening with the Latino and salsero community. With a career that extends over 25 years and has resulted in 25 albums that have included such hits as Una Aventura, Gotas de Lluvia, Cali Pachanguero, Sin palabras, Buenaventura y Caney among others, its easy to understand why Grupo Niche and their music are so loved by Latinos and lovers of salsa music.

Grupo Niche, created by Jairo Varela (director, producer, composer, singer and musician) in 1980 in Colombia included at the time Nicolas Cristanelo (piano), Alexis Lozano (trombone), Ali “Tarry” Garces (Saxophone and Flute), Francisco Garcia (bass), Luis Pacheco (congas), and lead singers Hector Viveros and Jorge Bassam. Since then the group has gone through many changes in regards to musicians, singers and the style of salsa they’ve produced. In spite of all these changes, Grupo Niche has remained true to the vision of the groups creator, Jairo Varela, who’s concept was to create a Colombian salsa band that created music that was not only danceable, but that also stayed true to the spirit of salsa, the Colombian community and the Latin community at large.

On April 22 not only will fans of Grupo Niche have the opportunity to hear songs off their new album “Alive” but also favorite songs such as “Busca por Dentro”, “La Negra No Quiere” and “Oiga, Mira, Vea”. The evening promises to be one filled with much happiness and dancing, a great party. Doors open at 9pm to the sounds of DJ Carlitos and DJ Victor Explosivo. The party will kick off in great form with the best of salsa, cumbia and merengue playing to get the crowd ready to receive Grupo Niche on stage. Niche will perform for a few hours which promise to be intense for music lovers and hot for those who love to dance.
